President's Message

Hello NAAAHR Chicago Members,

I am proud to be a member of the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources. My journey through this association has been nothing short of incredible. During my very first meeting, I noticed the rich culture of exchange, great development opportunities, and the strong networks of HR professionals. I quickly connected with a mentor, grew my human capital knowledge, and stepped into leadership. This allowed me to grow in multiple facets quickly. Now as President, along with the current leadership team, we will take NAAAHR to the next level!

Last year under the steadfast leadership of Past President Felicia Foster, we offered many connections and programs from our Rooftop Membership Mixer to the stellar CHRO Panel Discussion.

This year...Yes, COVID19 and the civil unrest has forever impacted the world hard. We are all feeling every pressure point. Notably, the NAAAHR Chicago Chapter is committed to providing support, development, and resources within these times of change. The 2020 year will offer a mixture of program management, benefits, career management and social reform strategies. So far we have:

• Shared First Aid and mental health best practices
• Offered relevant and proactive programming: Times are Changing Series: The Management of COVID-19
• Presented a panel discussion on Leveraging Employee Resources Groups
• Started a Voice of HR Podcast
• Offered New Membership Benefits: Free legal Consultation & Career Management Consultation
• Hosted a platform to discuss reformation and social change

The aforementioned overview is only the cusp of our work. NAAAHR Chicago has much more to come! This is an exciting and equally challenging year for us all. Yet, we are Human Resources leaders willing and ready to take the challenge head-on. NAAAHR is here for you and we are committed to providing the resources for an ever-changing, technology-driven, agile, and diverse world.

With that being said, here are a few of my priorities as the 2020-21 Chicago Chapter President:

• Improve branding and engagement within the Chicago Market and development partners across associations
• Leverage technology and Artificial Intelligence
• Increase Programming and Professional Development offerings
• Establish Chicago Premier Benefits that increases the value proposition of membership
• Build a stronger Executive Engagement brand and establish valued partnerships
• Provide a platform to share diversity and inclusion strategies and provide action steps

We have a strong, passionate, and smart Executive Leadership Team with a collective 30+ years in varied talent sectors. This team has your career development and member benefits top of mind. Together we will support the progressive growth of all diverse Human Resources Practitioners.

We challenge all members to continue to engage and remain involved with the work and vision of the chapter. As for the non-members, you do not want to miss out on this journey! Our leadership encourages you to participate in our offerings, gain membership, and contribute to the work of the chapter.

Together we stand! Divided we fall!

Roderick
