Omowale Crenshaw
Managing Principal, Geocentric Development Group International

Omowale Crenshaw is the founder and managing principal of Geocentric Development Group International, a Miami, Florida and Washington, D.C. – based real estate development and investment advisory firm. Mr. Crenshaw is an experienced business development professional with a specialization in strategic planning, feasibility analysis, acquisition, entitlements, project financing, and urban real estate development (both domestic and international). During his career he has facilitated development of commercial office, retail, residential, higher-education, K-12 education, entertainment-related real estate ventures and resort development analysis.

Mr. Crenshaw was formally a Regional Director for Canyon Capital Realty Advisors with the Canyon-Agassi Charter School Facilities Fund (A real estate private equity fund). He was responsible for underwriting, analyzing, negotiating and executing real estate investment opportunities totaling nearly $100MM in the Southeast region of the United States for high-performing charter organizations. This included, but was not limited to acquisition, entitlement, design, construction, and project financing - both equity and commercial debt.

Prior to Canyon-Agassi, Mr. Crenshaw was the Managing Director of Capital Asset Development at Howard University, where he oversaw capital planning and real estate development. He lead of team of over 20 professionals that collectively had significant impact. The division completed 40 capital projects, including 7 significant renovations of academic and university support buildings and the pre-development of two new residence halls, the pre-development of a science and research facility, and the repositioning of 35,000 square feet of retail space on behalf of the University. The combined projects represented over $300MM in real estate development. Prior to Howard University, Omowale lead two different Community Development Corporations (CDC’s) in Philadelphia. Real Estate and Business Ventures for Universal Companies, a South Philadelphia-based community development corporation founded by legendary music mogul Kenneth Gamble; and Enterprise Heights in West Philadelphia.

Mr. Crenshaw formally pursued several entrepreneurial ventures throughout the African continent. These included agribusiness opportunities in Ghana, Nigeria, and Cote d’Ivoire. He also served as Senior Vice-President of Commerce at an Africa-targeted South African-based internet company. As a consultant to the African Private Sector Development Group of the World Bank, Omowale provided support to various projects in Moçambique targeting several business development initiatives.

Fluent in Spanish, Omowale also assisted a Washington, DC based NGO with creating an economic development plan to support micro-enterprises in the communities of African descent throughout the Americas. His work has taken him to Honduras, Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. Prior to his entrepreneurial activities, Omowale was an Associate at strategic consulting firm McKinsey & Company in Washington, DC.

Omowale serves on the Leadership Committee for KIPP Philadelphia Charter School. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and the Real Estate Executive Council (REEC). For the past two years, Omowale has assisted the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism (INTBAU) with urban planning and redevelopment strategies for Habana, Cuba. He holds a B.B.A. in International Business from Howard University, an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Science in International Real Estate Development from The Johns Hopkins University.
